I know I’m a little late on this particular bandwagon, but a few weeks ago everyone was all psyched about the Matt & Kim album, Grand, and today I felt like voicing my opinion (agreement). Now, I’ve always loved “Daylight” - actually, I’m a little embarrassed to say that I still listen to it, frequently - but just recently have I gotten really into the rest of the tracks.
I’ve come to the conclusion that it takes a while to motivate myself to truly give new songs a chance. I need to sit down, doing nothing else, and just hear (“hear” is a much more interactive word than “listen,” don’t you think?). Anyway, it all ends up taking so much energy, I tend to avoid doing it - hence this post. But recently, I’ve found the perfect opportunity: during the forty minute train rides to my Brooklyn internship every Tuesday and Friday.
Dorm life is fine, but if there’s one thing I’ve learned to value, it’s the time I’m able to spend by myself. The commute to Prospect Park has allowed me to free up a bit of my life and do the things I love doing and love doing ALONE: reading, writing, and getting into new songs.
Anyway, looking back, this seems like a pretty boring vent session. Just wanted to say well done, Matt & Kim. And here’s “Good Ol’ Fashion Nightmare.”
